She had learned to read mats face most times and as she was wiggling she stopped spotting Mats mug he was watching some one and then she heard the voice and brow raised she sighed" do me a favor del if you plan on getting yourself killed could you do it before I leave so i dot ha e to come all the way back?"
She said it dead pan but didn't mean it she didn't want him dead but he was a pain in her rear. Kicking out a chair for him and sliding over her half the shrimp po boy for him" were still eating so if you wanna sit and eat before we go"
then looking at his car her eyes wide" what the actual fu... how is that thing still driving did you get the guys who did it?"
She shook her head and sighed sipping her drink" will the department fix it back up or was that outta pocket?"
Looking to Matt again like this man was nuts and she knew nutts. Wondering if he still was thinking she had a thing for the man now that he had seen them interact more. It was almost motherly or sisterly.

His face was its open readable self. He could tell she spotted his attention even if no one else could. Listening to her tongue lash Del it was obvious there was love present. It was curious to watch as the light flickered behind both of their eyes. It was clear that they were in synch as only partners should be. He had to hide his chuckle with a bite of sandwich. He’d received his fair of share stern looks from Monica never anything as full on as this. It was humorous yet there was something else floating there just beneath the surface.
Looking back towards the car he’d arrived in the front in was dented yet it moved. He was curious that it wasn’t as damaged as it seemed considering it moved and seemed to move decently enough. "Here take some of that one you probably eat it all the time but its good." Matt said pointing to the Po Boy Monica offered. He wasn’t a true car guy at least not the fixing and maintenance. He could drive his ass off but the real car stuff he was at a loss for. The jealous part of him knew Del had to be. Monica seemed the sort to go for the macho uber-old school guys. Not that he had those sorts of plans on her but he wanted her to be happy and the chance that she could be with this yahoo made him a little jealous he hid it but it was there.

Del chuckled taking the seat offered. He could see that Monica ordered. It was a seafood smorgasbord. Taking a bite of the sandwich he laughed as she continued giving him and his car the business. She was like his sister in some regards all piss and vinegar on the surface but warm and affectionate underneath. It wasn’t an easy balance to find but she seemed to walk the line fairly easily.
"It’s a private job but most of the rough stuff I’ll get out sometime tonight. The heavy stuff I gotsa guy works wonders with metal." He ignored the rest as there was nothing he could do about it so he didn’t even address it.
Del smiled digging in he moved his tie over his shoulder. He had to pick up his dress blues and knew they had to change. So he would simply throw out what was bothering him. "We’re heading to the funeral for a few officers. But anyone remember Ferguson form the raid. His tags were found yet the guy they were on was smaller and well ain’t no way to say it I thought he was black but the guy who we’re going to bury is white as Saint Paddy’s day."

Monica nearly had hurricane come out of her nose she coughed hard" hes what?"
berating her self for reacting but dammit how would she cover this one." did tags get mixed some how maybe they found them from one guy and put them on a guy without thinking they matched. there were a lot of out of towners helping might not have known faces"
there that was plausible as for having seen him" i also dont ee the person whe i use my gift i see aura and know people that way so id have seen is aura once and known he was ours to lessen my stress when trying to call out threats versus safe non targets"
That no one could disprove because no one saw what she saw when she used her gift unless she described it you wouldn't know and even then it wasn't exact so that gave her an excuse to not have known color or size of the man they thought was ferguson. Hoping like hell Matt would help not hurt but she counted it a long shot knowing that they had almost fought that day so he'd probably remember. She wouldn't dare take the phone out now hed wait till they split up to change she could get to a ladies room ad text samuel then.

Del screwed up his face as he watched Monica nearly did a spit take. He noted it but kept right on trucking. He looked at his beauty then back to the table. It would seem a nervous or shamed look but it was one of Pride and a second to consider the details he was absorbing while adding things together in his head. Between chews he got out, "White. And most importantly small not the big bruiser that nearly knocked you over at the exit."
He was just casually fishing as he knew Monica was one of the most perceptive Detectives he knew even with her gifts. He knew she would have gotten a glimpse of him especially as she’d touched him though he wasn’t sure if that was within her wheelhouse. " Normally I would have just swept it under the rug but even with the possibility of the switched tags we have as many bodies ambulatory and in bags as we had at the convention center but four less than were on seen. It’s a mystery especially as they were no rookies first timers or lookieloos just us professionals."
He caught something but he wasn’t sure what it was he was talking through it without putting a finger on it and his looked at Detective Vincent he was sure the other man knew something he wouldn’t say. He would let it drop only as no one had raised the alarm but he knew it would only be only a small amount of time. He had a pat and slightly provable excuses that would send the brass down the a rabbit hole that would keep them chasing their tails for more months than they had the time for with the resources they had.

Matt knew when it was better to be the fly and when it was better to be the wolf he was just making up his mind when Monica committed a sin she would never forget in the interview room. She gave an alibi for a question not asked before it was asked. Del didn’t seem to notice or as willing to let it slide and he had no idea why. As her partner it was his job to protect her, to have her back. Yet here was this southern boy who had some insight into her and willing to give more than he was getting.
In this situation he would do what a good partner would do. Eat his sandwich and jump in if he needed. Right now Monica aside from the small gaffe was doing fine. Hopefully, Del would let it drop but in the end he was prepared to jump on the grenade that this could be and he didn’t even know what this was but his antennae was up. He looked over his shoulder towards Dels car. He was still surprised when he thought of the obvious damage. It looked as if he rammed a building at low speed. Yet having driven to the rally point with the man he knew slow was a thing he only did in conversation.

She had made a rookie mistake and was mentally kicking her self but on the surface she remained calm. She knew they both knew but were either waiting for her to keep digging or clam up. She put the shovel down" well you've done more with less so I'm sure it will get sorted..so before your shoot out you said you'd gound Estelle is she going to the detention center till trial?"
He'd still not from his own mouth said she was dead so she wouldn't neither. She'd already slipped once and was not going to again.

Del smiled leaned forward in his seat flicked a gaze to Del waiting for the knight in shining armor act that every partner would adopt with the subject change. Two strikes and yet Del didn't press he wouldn't he trusted Monica. It was the number one rule that kept the thin blue line form fraying and crumbling under its own weight graft and corruption. He chewed the rest of the sandwich and smirked. He met her gaze nodded to an unspoken question leaned back and sighed.
" No need for any of that. She ain't gonna be messing with nobody any more. Somebody done real good and put an end to the cities blight. But on a less happy not I have to get new Med Techs they didn't notice the lack of info. No transfer no scrapings under the nails nothing but a clean scene even when the trunk was filled with leftover infant formula, chips and biologic matter. No way a professional hit her and left so much for us to find its like two different stories being told at the same time. But I'm preaching to the choir I'm sure you all deal with the incompetence pretty regularly."
He changed the subject slightly and with purpose solely as it would give Monica time to get herself in line with whatever she was telling him. He didn't wan aide and abet anyone but Monica had a shrewd mind she would figure the issue soon enough and give him an avenue to chase while keeping the bean counters off his back.

At that moment she hated New Orleans and would probably do everything she could to not come back for a while once she left. Eyes flicking away from them both she wanted to tell them but instead just raised a brow at the comments about clean scenes and incompetent people" yeah we do I have had lost blood samples and miss tagged evidence more than I'd like"
Her shoulder lifted in shrug. "Didn't you say she had high powered clientele and connected all over?."
Shed give him something to work withm"maybe one of them saw her as a liability when you raided her and popped up with a killer. Pro enough for clean but needed her found so obvious but ill fitting body dump. Needs us to believe Eric happened to find her or mabye it was him and he panicked after the fact"
There that should not catch suspicion because again he fed it to her and wanted an answer

Matt chewed watching Del with new sense of understanding he hinted smirked and beat around the bush with the best of them. It was a toss-up whether he was smarter than he let on or dumber than a box of rocks. It was an interesting dance if he was the former he would stumble into a whole world of information spelled out for him. Because frankly it was a little infuriating to be on the receiving end of someone constantly playing with your intelligence. If it was the latter, it would be equally frustrating as one wondered how such a clod found his way into a position of authority. It was a good ploy either way as even being one of the sharper knives in the drawer he’d had folks’ monologue their lives away. " Sometimes I swear the techs are rooting for us to lose. Moni you remember the guy out of the twelfth that lost his case because the tech forgot to test for lycanthropy first and the case was tossed out because the perp was just a furry fetishist."
He chuckled at it now but the case made most of the dicks and uni’s too pissed to willingly call in the techs for a few days. "Yeah didn’t I hear about her having her fingers in a lot of pies including this Eric’s business? Easy enough for someone to get fed up with her and make her disappear but get caught in the act. You guys were the murder capitol for such a long time I’m sure someone simply forgot that you’d lost the belt and went back to their old ways."

There it was and so nonchalantly done. Seemed as if Moni had found herself a real partner. He played ball without thinking about it and made it seem the most natural thing in the world. Del liked the idea of him having her back up there in the big rotten apple. Smiling to tell everyone he was on their side he finished the sandwich and wiped his mouth on the one of the napkins form the box on the table. He would have normally licked his fingers but he chose the napkin as he’d never really eaten with Detective Gregory before. And while friend of a friend he might be he wouldn’t rock the boat as people these days were weird about the strangest of things.
"I that was the worst thing they’d done I would be dancing for joy every time they showed up instead of watching their moves like a hawk." Looking at his watch he stood and stretched. “I’m gonna grab a drink for the road you two want anything for the drive ‘specially as we all have to change into the appropriate attire.” He looked at Gregory pegging him for the type that would need a few more minutes to perfect the image he was going for.
He knew they had more than enough time but he wouldn’t let on that he spotted one of Renauds crew hovering around. He was sure that they were not only his source of information but others so it was best to make the two detectives scarce. The less the street could hear the better. He was no fool and knew they were always watching just how much they heard was always the telling point.

"Another virgin hurricane in a togo cup and what ever Matts drinking"
She was glad he was playing nice but not stupid enough to think she could let guard back down and happening to glance the same way wolf aura flared for her. Brow hiked the wolves had been near the docs earlier before the scuffle the day of the raid but she said nothing and smiled to mat instead. " I am thinking you were right Im missing new york even though I bet it's cold now maybe it's even snowed once"
That made her wonder what did you get the man who could buy everything for christmas? He liked pocket squares she knew maybe new gloves or lionhead cufflinks or all of the above. She already knew what to get mat it was on back order then there was her large family she normally got them a group gift like a above ground pool or tickets to something. She wondered what gates would think of a gift.
Standing she stretched packed up the extra sandwich and uniforms in separate bags making sure she had somber make up basics and then waiting for del to return so they could find somewhere to change enroute.

"Café au lait with an extra shot. Thanks, Vincent."
Matt caught the unspoken message between the two of them. He wasn’t sure they even knew they were doing it. Vincent went to make a move and Monica was backing his play. Matt had been slow on the uptake by a few seconds no one entering seemed out of sorts but this was Vincent’s town and Monica had her intuition. Matt had his hunches but they were backed by his street knowledge and it was fallible. Thankfully, Monica was willing to drag him along. Her hint was enough. He locked in on several potential threats but held his final decision until they were moving.
" Yeah it has I caught the weather report. Not much snow but enough to let us know it happened."
Cocking a brow towards the young turk who looked as if he was trying to clean up but couldn’t leave the street game completely. There were lots of his type about but he was the only one watching the restaurant as if he was casing the joint for other clockers. There was a quiet feralness about him that Matt knew was nothing good if allowed to run unchecked. He was an infected. What strain was anybodies guess yet it was there a certain nervous energy as if he were vibrating in his seat.
He unbuttoned his jacket freeing his draw, just in case.

Eyes on mat but the wolf was never out of her vision field. She leaned in close like a lover shares a secret and very quietly knowing most shifters hearing was phenomenal spoke in code." remember how awesome lucian in the underworld movies was? I think we should watch them again tonight like a marathon"
Which should have translated to be very careful what you are seeing and feeling is wolf. We won't run but need to move and not call attention loosely.
She smiled and kissed his cheek to sell it and nodded moving carefully to dels car putting things in to free her hands in case knowing mat had her six. Del was also probably watching but wouldn't be fast enough in a jam.

She kissed him she really kissed him. It wasn’t a full on fireworks and more kiss but it was real and despite all of the body language that begged to differ it was real. Del had no words to describe what he was feeling. First he supposed was jealous. Honest to goodness jealousy. He knew it wouldn’t work between them. But she was as close as anyone could ever come to understanding what he was what he lived with. At least her otherness was explainable. She would get it even if there was no name for what he was. Well besides the one who didn’t shift. The next in his swirl of emptions was probably sadness. It wouldn’t work and that old chestnut about better to have lost was a lie. It would hurt something awful when it ended. The kindest thing would be for one of them to die in the line of duty but he wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Damn them. Sighing he squished his emotions into a box and shoved them out of his way. The box would spring open when he wasn’t expecting but for now he was his normal slow self. Stepping into line he watched as they made their way to the car and he hit the locks as well as the trunk. All while nodding imperceptibly towards Renaud’s man. He knew he’d been spotted it wasn’t like he was hiding after all he’d made himself a target by standing and moving. He didn’t know what it was about lycanthrope but movement attracted them. It only came with understanding were they able to hide their obvious hunter prey emotions and keep from tracking every movement with their heads as well as their eyes.
He couldn’t remember the guys name so he just started talking as if he’d called him by name. "What’s your boss up to you folks have been all over the place the last few days everything okay?”
