Aeirel had flown back in 2 days ago and was surprisingly glad to be back. Her time abroad while thoroughly tiring had been both lucrative and informative. On the downside she had several new scars to show for her efforts. Definitely a bummer but there wasn't anything she could do about it.
She had finally found a more permanent living situation in the form of a one bedroom apartment across town from where she was currently. She had resettled herself before coming here, hence the fact she had been back for two days before going to see Gates. She could well imagine he already knew of her presence because he knew everything or it seemed like he did.
It wasn't quite dark when she entered the convent so while the place wasn't busy just yet it would certainly be soon. As she looked around she spied mainly servants who mostly tried to ignore her not wanting to incure the wrath of their Master. She had but one gun currently attached to her person as she walked through the halls heading for his office.
She had promised that when she returned she would pay a visit though what all her visit would entail she didn't know. Just as she knocked on the door she felt the other vampires wake for the night, her senses going on high alert even though they all knew not to mess with her for differing reasons. The biggest being they all knew who's protection she was under even if she didn't always like it. Hearing his voice through the door asking her to come in she opened the door and stepped in quietly shutting it behind her. Slowly turning to face him she didn't exactly smile but she wasn't glaring. "Hello Gates, it's been a while.." she said as she moved towards him not exactly looking him in the eyes but almost. She knew he could still roll her or he certainly had before.

Gates had spent the day arranging and planning he was preparing toe cede open control of Shreveport and wanted to insure the plans laid would be the plans carried out. He accounted for stylistic flourishes and the like yet there was something niggling his thoughts and he wanted to insure that while every plan went awry that in its trailing away form the outlined path that it would remain on course. Always considerably harder to insure when persons were involved. The thought to have Chidera warden things was strong so strong in fact that he walled his thoughts off in that regards so as to not lean even accidentally into that path.
Truth be told Raven would be far better suited to such an endeavor but again it was to easy a thing to lean into and so he backed away mentally. Aeolas’s aide was a help indeed yet she had not truly come into her own and would not for some time. Trained and competent though she was she labored with keeping her rather prudish inclinations completely in line. He was working with her to do so yet some vestiges of her mortal life remained.
Closing the books away and shutting down Chidera’s computer he stood just as Aeriel came through the door. The sun showed in her travels. Her skin a healthy tan and bearing the scent of the day. He didn’t reach for her eyes as she was still considerably guarded. He didn’t need them though having a conversation without hem as always was far more difficult. Taking a perch on the forward facing corner of Chidera’s desk he said, “ You look far more rested than was to be expected with your travels. I am honored you would visit me first.” He wouldn’t be more effusive as doing so had scared her previously. Her fear caused no small amount of titillation and he would constrain himself. Even for one such as he not dying during the day required more than was normally expected.
Inhaling more directly her scent he furrowed his brow. A gun not that it would serve her much in the confined quarters of the Chapel its possession a small issue. “Having come so directly have you eaten?”

She shrugged her shoulders slightly as she rounded the chair nearest his perch on the desk. He was her first official visit most definitely but not truly the first place she had come after landing. But she wasn't going to say that, who knows maybe he needed it. Truly while being gone she had learned how most vampires treated her with the vast majority full on threatening to kill her if she came back. Meaning that while she had hunted the rogues causing trouble for everyone involved the several kiss members she had dealt with.. well lets just say she was probably lucky to have made it back to the states in one piece. And yes she had grown from within but not enough to make her feel like she didn't need or want the weight of her gun on her person. She could admit that she was still feeling jumpy.
She knew he could be the big bad vampire that he was but so far he had been for the most part nothing but polite and generally willing to work with her. For instance their working relationship that the public in the know was really nothing more than skin deep and he had yet to push for more. Sighing almost in defeat though not in truthfully feeling defeated, it was more like feeling deflated she lifted her eyes to his. For an instant she knew he could see it before she blinked it away. Today was apparently a day in which he finally got to really see something other than the way she normally treated him.
Blinking a few more times as she stared at him she finally looked away as she considered if she should eat with him. She had to think about the last time she had eaten which meant it had been to long but then her day had been busy. Mentally shrugging this time it was either eat with him or eat alone. His company was likely to be more stimulating. Opening her mouth for half a second it closed before words actually came out. "I.. No, no I haven't. Not since this morning." Looking back up at him from beneath her lashes she flashed a cocky grin "does this mean you are asking me out to eat?"

“Vous taquinez horriblement,” Gates said lightly his lips crooked in a slight smile. As she grew closer he saw the stress in the set of her shoulders and the small tweaks at the corner of her eyes as if she were fighting the urge to check the corners of the room. Standing he crossed the distance stopping shy of touch. She needed the comfort but if she didn’t accept he wouldn’t force it on her. He’d been forthright and offered her as much as she could comfortably accept and yet she still found a way to keep a distance between them. She was skittish and he wouldn’t have her flee from the umbrella of his care completely.
“Yes I suppose I am asking you to enjoy a… bite, with me.” He said his eyes skimming hers but avoiding holding them. “You could use a meal and I would enjoy your company. Npt too mention the chef at the Inn has a new bread pudding recipe that holds he essence of vanilla. I am sure you would enjoy it. I have not witnessed anyone who hasn’t, yet. Shall we put it to the test?” The chef was one of the few who’d trained at the Anastasios in Chicago and was doing not only rich faire for mortals but also using gastronomic chemistry and creating dishes that were for a vampires palate. The other night Gates and Chidera enjoyed a gumbo created solely for their rareified palate made form several blends of A, O and B positive blood laced with a portion of the Sleuths very potent blend spiced and served a la Flambe’. The presentation alone was enough to win accolades. The fact that it was completely palatable for a vampire won him even more than that. It opened so many financial possibilities as now New Orleans well and truly could become a tourist destination not only for mortals but vampires that chose as well.

She cocked her head trying to puzzle through what he'd said in French. It kind if sounded like he had said something about something being horrible but what she had no idea. She had managed to pick up on a few words here and there but languages was not something she was gifted at.
It surprised her that he came so close to actually touching her. Almost stepping backwards she realized what she was doing and instead tried to root her feet to he spot. The back of her brain was telling her to get as far from him as she could which was probably the smart option but she could see it in the way he stood in front of her. Without saying it he was offering her comfort if she would accept it. Her teeth tugged at her lip as she waivered between backing off and actually hugging him. Clearly if it was an actual thought in her head than she must of needed it.
But she held out until he was done talking Not wanting to interrupt. Finally letting a loud sigh escape she closed that distance willingly for the first time in history, her arms went around his hard waist as her head buried itself in his chest. There was a bit of trembling going on as she breathed in the scent of vampire and the way his clothes smelled.
They stood like that for what felt like several minutes before she mumbled against his chest, "I think I'd like that." And she did and then finally she was pulling away still feeling a little shaky and raw. Taking in a much needed deep breathe she pulled back enough to tilt her head up her gaze meeting his for a long moment. "Thank you.." It seemed tonight was full of firsts.

Seconds ticked by as she held on for a moment gaining her bearings and returning to herself with his help. His aid of comfort. The day’s labors mostly done and his surfeit of feeding meaning that taxed from the effort of not dying he was still hale and warmer than most would ever expect from one such as he. In fact he was but a few degrees cooler than the human ninety eight point eight. “Vous êtes les bienvenus,” he said as she broke their embrace backing away. He wouldn’t belabor the fact this was the first she’d willingly taken his offer of help of any variety. “Good then its settled away to the Inn and we will celebrate your return…home. This time for a spell yes?”
He intended to insure she had a nice relative quiet night to unwind and decompress from her time abroad. Working as she did in the employ of the missing resident sorcerer supreme there of course were questions that perhaps only she could answer though in truth he doubted. If she were in the know of such a dangerous secret it would leak form her pores. She was not the sort to actively keep secrets.
Motioning ahead he pulled the door closed behind them. Not completely so yet to the casual glance it would appear so. It was a silent code between he and Chidera. She would know he’d used her office as his battle station for the day and would immediately latch onto the threads he left for her perusal Namely the slow phasing of control of Baton Rouge and Shreveport. If she found any glaring tactical errors she would address them with him later. For now, as best as they could be plans were laid, lines were drawn and things were moving apace.
“You must tell me of the sights you were able to take in on your journeys. I rarely travel these days…” He said catching up to her offering his arm so they might stroll towards the Inn together. The walk wouldn’t be long but it would give them time to speak at leisure and hopefully find a way to bring Aeriel more wholly into herself.

By the time she had fully disentangled herself from him she at the very least looked more like herself. She still wasn't feeling quite alright but maybe eating would fix that. Putting some real space between them she nodded her head to his question. "Yes it's going to be a bit before I take anything that'll send me back out that far. Can't say it wasn't great for me but well.... It was quite dangerous to my health." Her eyes narrowed just thinking about all that had happened. It still pissed her off in some ways.
At his gesture she turned and made for the door rather quickly feeling the need suddenly to not be shut in with him. Oh she didn't think he'd try to harm her but uhh. Yeah no she needed to keep her over active imagination from going there. Maybe she needed another boyfriend, she made a face at that. Those never ended well for anybody.
She wasn't but a few feet from the door when he caught back up but she wasn't actually in a hurry, her brain to busy thinking. As he spoke once again she blinked dragging herself out of her thoughts. "I don't imagine you do.. Thats a pretty far distance to travel." Aeriel eyed his arm but decided what the hell before lightly placing her hand on his arm. Truthfully there hadn't been a lot of sight seeing as she had spent a lot of her time in the outer laying towns but she hasn't let that fully stop her from exploring. Though the cold weather had sucked and man if she didn't hate being cold. It was really to bad that she had left when it was finally beginning to warm up and everything was finally blooming.
"Well most of what i got to see were small towns and such. I loved that small town charm they had going on but Paris was by far more beautiful than I thought it would be." What she didn't mention was the riotous nightlife. She wasn't a prude but there had been things she'd seen that made her blush scarlet. Just thinking about it a blush stole across her cheeks again which had her cursing silently knowing she couldn't hide it.
Realizing she hadn't said anything for a few minutes as they walked the blush turned hotter. Clearing her throat as she tried to get it under control she added "I checked out some museums and of course I climbed the tower and just generally wondered the streets for the couple of days i had left." She shrugged again before she realized they had arrived at the Inn.

Moving with her in a camraderal silence he allowed the silence to sit as way for her to decompress. "That is good news indeed. Saying closer to home will definitely make things easier. Of course the question becomes is that what you wish or simply has the erstwhile rest of the world tired you to the point you’d simply rather avoid it all?" He knew from others a portion of what had taken place in a few instances but as she for the most part was whole he allowed her the privacy she asked.
As they arrived at the Inn he held the door for her following closely on. A nod of greeting form several of the staff and kissmates that worked or lounged therein. Taking a booth that afforded her a view of the public entrances and exits he settled opposite her. As the waiter brought menu’s he waited until she’d ordered and the waiter was off to fetch her items before speaking again.
"You have been in my thoughts quite often as of late. I think we should perhaps move forward in our relationship as the tenor of your work has grown far more…interesting and you will come to more than a passing interests to those you interact with. I would like to continue keeping my word of your safe return and doing so would make things far more accomplishable." He wouldn’t explain that with having all but annexed Baton Rouge and Shreveport that matters had escalated for the Kiss as well. There would be far more Kiss members which while a great thing for the Crescent city it would also increase the options that someone not sufficiently cowed by him Chidera or Raven might attempt to adhere to the old ways.

He held open the door allowing her to go in first, the fact that she willingly allowed him at her back said volumes. Though she was surprised albeit grateful that she let her take the side of the booth that allowed her to see the the exits and the people in the building whether they were human or vampire. Not that she actually needed to see the other vampires as the back of her brain had a map and pin for each one. Very useful if you asked her.
She waited until she was pursuing the menu to give him an answer to his earlier question as she had needed some time to mull it over. "Yeah I wouldn't mind traveling again but not for a few years hopefully. I'd like to grow some more before I try that again. I took care of myself but..." Where she trailed off it was obvious there were things there she had rather not talk about.
Clearing her throat she decided on a chicken parm and some water when the waiter came back around. She smiled up at a the man as she handed off her menu and he walked off. He was certainly cute was really her only thought there. Her eyes landed back on Gates as he began speaking and her eyebrows rose incredulously completely unsure of what to make of what he was saying to her. Her eyes narrowed however as he brought up turning their relationship into something more. Personally she thought it was fine the way it was but she was also unsure of what he was talking about.
He could have been referring to several different options. Sex of course which was pretty unlikely plus she wouldn't fall into bed with just anyone. Dating perhaps? But that just sounded silly. What else was there she wondered. She continued to eye him her face a mask of confusion before one in particular seemed to stick. The one thing she had chosen to continue to ignore though he had briefly alluded to it on multiple occasions. She really didn't want to jump the gun here but. "Umm wh..what are y..you talking about?" Yeah she was suddenly nervous as hell and her heart rate shot through the roof actually afraid of what his answer would be.

He raised a brow at her stammering allowing the moment to carry its own weight. He sighed audibly a little exasperated. It was a difficult moving at even a more of a glacial pace. But it was necessary he supposed as Aeriel was quite skittish. For one who delved into their world with such violence and loss of life constantly near at hand she was in truth quite innocent. There was so much so very much she hadn’t experienced and was protective of herself sampling.
Taking the rolled silverware form the table he sat the napkin into his ap and arranged the simple setting as it should be on the table before him. He straightened the utensils once more before saying, "Travelling has always been a salve for the human condition it makes one long for home more times than not..." Meeting the space between her eyes so she could both physically and metaphysically know his leanings he continued. “You are while singular in your being a threat to many masters around the world. By avocation, action and ability should you train yourself in the fullness of your power. More so if left unchecked wild feats and actions not of your choosing could become the norm. I have been true to my word keeping you safe from afar. Letting it be known that my wrath would be most ungodly should undue harm befall you. That I would visit upon those who would dare visit molestation upon you there actions tenfold for ten generations.”
Clearing his throat even as it was unneeded as a comfort to her to give the words spoken time to settle in he went on. “While you are capable in protecting yourself from the majority of those who would take interest you are not proof against all nor any who would assail your defenses as one would woo a lover. Your abilities grant you some measure of protection but it being so similar to those of my kind also for those in the know presents certain paths to drive through to the heart of you. In short as with all gifts or curses it is a double-edged blade giving with one hand and taking with another. There are perhaps ten living necromancers left living in the entirety of the world. I would like to insure that you remain in it so long as you wish. That you might grow and flourish as long as you wish. And while my word is my bond it is growing nigh that your continued existence will be a problem to those who wish that the number of necromancers was decidedly smaller. Between the Witches of the Mountain raining chaos on each city they show their hand in with their civil war and the vampires doing what they can to insure no witches have the might of arms to challenge them you and those like you are a threat. One that grows in need of redress daily.”
Having talked round and back to the main caveat he again paused. Time was such a precious thing its value only being made clear after its lapsing usually. He waited as the waiter brought over their items. He waited longer still as Aeriel looked at what she’d ordered. He knew this was a conversation that could be off putting but it was one they needed to have. Either in or out and he would honor his word iether way.
“So in short I believe it is time that we join ourselves. Truly join ourselves our energies our aims and our considerable skills to insure you have a life beyond reproach. That you are as unassailable as we can insure. That you become truly mine, sharing all that might engender. It will take time for you to come into the fullness of yourself. As things stand it is also a guaranteed fact that others will do their abject best to insure that never happens. So that as they say is me putting my cards on the table. You know what I offer, what gains there are for you, and most importantly what is at risk. The choice must be yours…”

She wasn't one to fidget but as it stood there she sat fidgeting as Gates spoke and touched on pretty much everything. She wasn't happy with the events taking place but at the very least she could listen to what was to be said.
To make matters worse as she listened to what was said she knew he was right. And the sensible part of her brain knew that joining him was the smart thing to do. It had become more and more obvious over the last few years that as her powers developed she was coming up on the radar of not so good vampires. The problem however was that in the back of her brain, the part that continuously warned her of vampires in particular and the drillings of her younger years was telling her to get out while she still could. Which then meant she was at war with herself. The need to survive at almost any cost vs. everything she'd ever been taught. Could she really turn her back on all of that?
As her thoughts churned in her head she watched Gates the expressions on his face and what looked like fidgeting on his part. That was probably her projecting though because of what she'd been doing since he started talking. He finally paused as food arrived for which she was thankful. It was just a lot to take in really. And while she had been hungry when they arrived now she just stared at her plate her brow furrowed. It smelled good but he had killed her appetite.
When finally he ended she heaved a sigh not wanting to respond at all really. If she could have she would have gotten up and walked out then and there. If she could have gotten him to agree to give her time to think about she'd have done that to but she was pretty sure he was done waiting and it was now or never. Leaning back she looked at him once more "You've made a lot of valid points and thank you for what you've done so far." She sighed even more heavily it almost sounded as if she were about to refuse him. She almost smirked as his muscles tensed ever so slightly but she manged to keep her face serious. She knew what was being offered and yes it really did go against everything shed ever been taught but she also planned to stay alive for as long as possible even if she wasn't ready for this level of commitment. Reaching for her glass her hand shook slightly "I'm tired of being alone. I'm almost 34 and have had a handful of relationships that clearly didn't last or go anywhere. I wasnt normal enough and I'll never be but then you know that. Hell I'm even still innocent in more than one way." Whether he got the reference she didn't know but she wasn't done either.
"I'm certainly not ready for this but I imagine you are done waiting." She finally brought the glass to her lips taking several sips as the silence stretched as he waited. She thought of several ways to say the same thing but finally decided on simple. She wasn't one to be long winded with most of her replies. "Yes," it was simple and couldn't be misconstrued as anything but acceptance.

He nodded withdrawing into himself leaving her the space before them. She had made her decision and he would honor it. She would learn more of the world she feared and in turn was feared by. It was a momentous occasion and while he was of a mind to celebrate he knew she might see it more asa funeral than a cause celebre’. As such he let the silence sit amiably between them. The fullness of her decision and all its permutations surely weighing on her. He didn’t envy her soon to be loss innocence nor did he begrudge her a small bit of sullenness. This was not the olden times when it was merely a matter of being told what was to be. No this was a new age and a new time. With preparations in place on several fronts pans would form and she would certainly be a local if not regional celebrity.
“That is a decision I can live with. “ He said at last. Pulling himself away from his thoughts. “Aeriel, eat up my dear you will need you strength in the coming days.” It was tue she would as he slowly inhabited a portion of her and she a portion of him. What he was preparing to do had not been done in quite some time. He would be tying her not solely to him but to the kiss as a whole. It would give her protections undreamed of. It would also afford both her and the Kiss some protections against each other. She wouldn’t be dragged screaming into hell upon one or more of their deaths and yet they would also be proof against some of the abilities she would certainly grow into.
