He was never one for shows of power or ostentatiousness. Each of the previous Rex’s he’d reached out to had been in place a few years. They each had history with their locales and had built their own circle of influence. This rex had only been in place a year. In that time not much had been accomplished but that was the nature of things in the big easy. Things moved like molasses then an explosion of actions and upheavals. New Orleans over the last two decades he’d been aware of any of the happenings there had always been horribly miasmic.
It had taken no small bit of work and investments to secure his silent entrance into the city. Quiet though he was he knew Gates and his security forces knew he was about. As long as he abided by Gates generous rules he was sure the Master of the city wouldn’t bother to look too deeply into his being here. Even if he did there were a myriad of publically accessible reasons he’d built into his cover. The truth was quite simple he was here to make a deal. It’d taken some doing to get this far undetected at large. It would take more to get to his goal. As always he bet big hedging against outright failure but willing to accept what would come. It was important and they needed this.
So he eased from the armored SUV making his way across the street into the office space. He knew where the doctor’s office was and yet he paused looking over the plaque’s alerting the public where each person and business listed were located. He’d had his contacts clear the man’s schedule save for his two o’clock appointment. And while he himself had never been a part of the military industrial complex the wars he’d fought would be on par with most of the strife any man at war had survived.
Arriving at the door to the office he knocked once twice calling out, “Doctor Long may I enter?”

Tiber had spent most of the day looking out of the windows. He had a group of patients that was listed as coming to the office, they were a bunch of new people, they were so new in fact that not one of them had shown themselves. Tiber was in this position in fact when the energy of the other more powerful lycanthrope eased onto the block Tiber watched as the large black SUV cruised to a stop at the front of the complex. Tiber looked at the man as he got out of the vehicle, it was not anyone that Tiber could say he had ran across. It was beyond strange, That this was all happening. Perhaps the stranger had wanted Tiber alone for some reason. The heated dry energy of the plains told Tiber all he needed to know. It was a fellow Rex, he was extremely powerful and he was obviously coming to see Tiber.
Tiber took a deep drink of water to cool his suddenly very dry throat. There were not many Rex’s that was this powerful and Tiber was one of them. Since he had not come in an armored car to see himself he leaned back in his chair and awaited to the other man. When his voice came from right outside his office he called back into the open area of the office. “Sure, the door is open.”
Tiber had sent Tabby home already. It was slow day and when for first two ad not shown, Tiber figured it was something along these lines. Normally it was good form to allow a fellow Rex passage through the city if the Rex did not tarry in one place overly.
Tiber watched from a distance Tiber to see what the Rex next plan was. assuming that the lion was a Rex and could afford nice cars Tiber took guess, but why would they come to this town with the city in a bad way. So why not have someone craving attention. tiber would have at the very least and told that she had caused. however it would stand to reason that another party was moving in to try to feel the void somewhere else.

“Thank you,” He intoned his voice its usual strange deep vibrato of man and lion. Too human to be a beast roaring and too much Lion to be fully human. It preceded him like Moses leading the children of Israel up out of the pharaohs grasp. Opening the door as he spoke his eyes gathered the details of the man before him in sweeping glances. He and his beast were at relative peace. He had the glasses and air of a man who was accustomed to solving or helping to solve problems. In short his job was who he was and who he wanted to be. He met the man’s eyes allowing his shields to drop a hair. There was a dance of dominance that most Rex’s played at if they had a doubt as to what he brought to the table. He hoped it wouldn’t be necessary but he was prepared to run round that old chestnut if it would speed things along.
“Doctor Long I am unsure if my reputation precedes me but I represent The Abstrahimus Leones Lunae Lucem. I know it’s a mouthful which is why many know it as simply The Abstract. Have you heard of either?” Moving as he spoke he settled into the chair nearest the desk. Even as the chaise looked far more comfortable. The pitch was made and depending on how Doctor Long responded it would either make things easier or exponentially harder. While the substance of challenges were the same everywhere each Pride’s form was slightly different. He had not come to challenge and wanted nothing more than to avoid that option but it was in fact an option that due Lion’s notoriously thick skulls often became the only recourse. He hoped that would not be the case here. He was sure that as an outside entity that Gates for all of his Noblesse Oblige would certainly have his two cents to add compounding things.
He’d never learned why the area was a hands off for all snake lycanthropes but he had his ideas based on the news he was hearing through the grapevine on the west coast. It wasn’t his business and while Aeolas owed the Master of this city a favor directly he considered himself owing one as well. Sabin after all was his friend so the steps taken to help rid him of his haunting were also his to repay.

Tiber listened to the bass that rumbled from the man’s throat. He was instantly trying to sell something, It was the first reason that Tiber was apprehensive. It was known that such came in three’s and as a matter of speaking it would just take a few moments perhaps by the time the Rex sat down the other two would occur and draw this conversation to a close. Tiber didn’t know much about this man, as many of the circles Tiber closed himself off from or he kept his slowly growing pride down wind of. Lion scuffles that had little or no consequence Tiber avoided. Currently a few of the lionesses have voiced a concern that they were being attacked and wanted a someone to protect them while they stripped, however they did not want to officially join the pride. While it pained him deeply he would not allow himself to be used as a shield. If you want protection than you have to follow.
Tiber walked as the man painted the picture of himself and his surrounding in his mind. Either he would want a piece and this was the calm before the storm. Tiber kept the shield tightly in place as the other Lion opened his shield slightly. Tiber raised an eyebrow an regarded the man slowly even to the point of removing his glasses and staring at the other Rex.
“Sadly I do not know anything of the….The Abstract…I have not heard many things outside the quarter as you may have noticed since new Orleans is yet divided, I don’t quite own a pride as of yet. I am only remotely recognized as the Rex by the undead and the leaders of New Orleans. I did not even know until you came here that I am even known on the national stage.”
Tiber paused as the implications of that actually filtered into his psyche… San Diego how long before they get eyes on him and send a large group of lions to kill Tiber or as they knew him Terrance. Sadly he had so few members that it was complex as to how it would be handled. Tiber would really need to lean on the vampires if a group of lycanthropes were to come into the city from San Diego.
“I will.. hmm” Tiber bit his lip in thought. “I would assume it be a better option before you offer for you and your league? Group? Party? As you and myself can tour the city, the area and then you may take your findings back to the elite party of the Abstract and your all may reevaluate if at this time it would be even worth the effort that you guys would want New Orleans or if you and your group would rather allow the situation to mature before offering a Rex who is still in the middle of a war of his own that is yet won to join your party.”
There Tiber had did all he could be to be diplomatic about it. Tiber knows what the situation must look like from the outside. Tiber was Lion no Rex enough to own up to the situation. New Orleans was ran and owned by the Vampires, the other Lions are so used to being enforcers that the change in culture has been slow to take effect. He made the counter offer so now it was up to this unknown person to decide how he would play this.

He sat an listened as the new Rex ran through his surface thoughts and sized him up. Doctor Longs tightening of his shields set alarm bells alight in his head. He ignored them as the man was simply hedging his bets. He didn’t want to give offense to his guest and he didn’t want to betray any of his thoughts by having his metaphysical aura speaking too loudly. It was one of the many problems with showing up relatively unannounced. It meant they were playing off the cuff for the most part. The real problem was the inherent bull-headedness that plagued lions. It was tool that the learned amongst their ranks used to trick others into making the wrong decisions. Unfortunately as much as he lived through he wouldn’t ever use such tricks or tools even if he knew how to rein his own bullheadedness.
He mulled over the options as well as the potential double speak inherent. He chose the direct route in his words and hoped Terrence chose the same. This didn’t have to be a long visit. It was a simple offer and answer. Allow us to come together as a whole. Keep and increase your lands with the weight of a nation of lions willing able and ready to come to your aide in any time of need. Provided the same could be expected in return.
Instead of launching into a sales pitch he simply said. “The Abstrahimus is a coalition of Rex’s each with their lands, prides and individual minds. As for the tour I’d prefer not my security team would get nervous. They are already shitting bricks that they don’t have eyes on me in here.”
He knew that if he pushed he would meet a wall. So he paused allowing his words to soak in. Then moving on he stated, “Of course we would like you to join our coalition. It would not only be a good thing for the coalition but for you as well. Those here in the city would become members through you and there are options for legitimization should the need or want arise for those who might dabble beneath the strictest letter of the law.”
There it was out in the open now either he would raise the stakes say yes or ask him to leave.

Tib Leaned back in his chair, it was the classic hard sale, he wondered if this Abstract was something that he should involve himself in or if it was one of the many trendy groups that preyed upon the weak. A powerful member of an established pride can to knock over a younger pride and extort the smaller pride, join us or else. Picking up the phone he dialed a number he had not dialed in two years. It was from a Rex in Texas, The Rex picked up on the third ring. With the preternatural hearing of a lycanthrope it was pointless to walk outside the room.
“Hello. Long time no hear! Um… yea.. right.. yup. Give the me reader’s digest for the Abstract… ummm.. that’s odd. That was harsh, oh… okay that guy’s an ass hat anyway. Right. Well would you join? Oh.. ok what about..oh wow. Why didn’t you guy’s let me know. Meeting was in Chicago? I wasn’t invited. Oh yea I had just touched down. I see so all of you are part of it? What about san diego? No? good. Well why didn’t you bring that to his attention….hmmm.. and what is the leader’s name Hieronymous… um hmmm.”
Tiber looked the other man over as he was getting the description. This was definitely him, as his friend relayed the particulars about what the abstract was and more important what it wasn’t Tib weighed the options that lay in front of him. Saying his goodbyes. He hung up the phone then looked back to the other Rex.
“Alright Mr. Walker. I was speaking to a friend of mine from san Antonio. He is saying how you and your group helped him out of a problem that he was having with the leopards. And you are a good person to know. I don’t know how much help I can provide and he mentioned that the few rexes I got to know are already part of the group and that it is secret except to Rexes. So I guess im in. however I can tell you that San Diego is going to be a problem .”

Hiero waited allowing Tibs to make up his mind via phoning a friend. He was surprised a small bit the he knew the San Antonio Rex. Especially as personally the Rex from San An hated Hiero. Though in truth hate was too light of a word. Hiero knew Dante from before he’d given up on the Oriens Astrum. He’d solidified his reign short though it was through putting down a pyromancer and mating with the soon to be Regina. It wasn’t the first time Hiero watched a Pride consume the dead and dying it was one of the first time he’d watched a Pride bond over death. While it was cathartic for them to him with his twisted past it was a sign the Pride was doomed. When Lions descended to carrion feeders nature was in an upheaval. Sure enough the Pride faltered and TJ swooped in backed by the wolves Ulfreya.
Shaking off the ghosts of the past Hiero fixed the New Orleans Rex with a knowing look as he used his name. “Hiero will do if you like. It will indeed San Diego has always been a problem. Sadly they are gifted with one of the longest reigning Masters, Rexes, and Ulfreya’s. They are all aligned and set on holding what they have no matter the cost. We have gained the support of Julian from San Fran but aside from that Kiss the bulk of Kisses view us as a potential problem. Which if I am being honest we are.”
Shrugging Hiero went on. Extending his hand to seal the deal. There were longer ceremony’s and oaths that could be spoken and done but he’d found that most Rex’s were as direct as he himself was and appreciated brevity and honesty over pomp and circumstance.
“Doctor Long it is a pleasure to have you amongst us and we look forward to helping you in any way we can. Strength in numbers is more than an old chestnut that politicians use to cow others into joining them. We as a coalition look out for our own.”

Tib Sighed, I guess that was the first step of the longest journey as one would say. He thought to himself. He figured that since he had been as nice as he could, it was about time that he went about cleaning house now that he had the support of some of lion’s of the United States. In a way Tib did not want to start this rebellion however, the Abstract coming down and rolling the ball started something that could not be stopped, if Tib’s did not get his house in order now the attention of the other lion’s Rexes and the cast offs will start sniffing around as now that he was on the map he would actually have to be on the map. The thought deeply wounded and sadden him knowing what it would mean and the pain he would have to inflict just to clean up his act, and the criminal activities of “His Pride” because Tib was not a fool he knew that since he was on the map what happened here would land squarely on his shoulders.
“You know, in a way I really hate that you came down here. I even hate that I came up on your radar.”
Standing up Tib looked to the other man. This next part was something that he did not want to say, he really did not want to do but choice did he have. Sighing.
“I will need some help if the offer is truly genuine. I need some muscle to clean up the garbage lions. Who is dragging the New Orleans down. How many can you spare? Mostly headknockers I doubt that it should get beyond that.”

He smiled looking away from the Rex giving a moment to compose himself. He was glad that Mister Long accepted. It proved several things and opened many options. The fact he accepted so easily and quickly spoke volumes more even along with his request for aid. Of course he would help The Abstract was designed so that no lion would have as hard a time as he did upon his arrival in Chicago, Detroit, San Diego, or several others.
“I’m not you seem an honorable man despite the rumors circulating about your past…” Hiero left the rest of the story hanging willing to continue only if Tibs wanted to know. He’d come prepared for the rumors to be true but hoping they weren’t. Judging by what he was witnessing of the man he was willing to bet they were not. He’d been fooled before but as Tibs was not a woman he doubted his summation was blinded or wrong.
He stood meeting the larger younger man’s gaze full on. Smiling he said “There are a few I can think of that would be glad to stretch their muscles and do a good turn. I won’t hold you if you have somewhere to be. I will ask as I haven’t frequented the city in quite a few years where would the best place to get a bite before heading back to my cozy environs.”
Stopping as his phone sounded Rockwell’s only real hit. “Excuse me a moment.” Answering with ‘Good evening’ He was greeted by a deep female baritone. It brought him up short he listened preparing to end the call he said “I will certainly look into that. Thank you Miss?”

As the mysterious man mentioned in only a slightly vague way Tib’s past a slight cold chill raced its way down his back. In a vague way the man just reinforced the feeling that Tib was on the clock and he needed to step up his gameplan. Initially Tib had planned to play it cool let those who were tired of being meat to all of the other more powerful sects come to him and he would have took them in after they pleaded their allegiance to him. however only one had came. Tib’s was perfectly happy to wait them out it could only logically be a short period of time once word had circulated in the city that a powerful Rex had come to the city for the others to snif around and see what he was about, sadly that was not the case. Only the young woman, child actually had come for his protection and while granted it did not filter down to the others as he had hoped.
So now that he has truly come to the attention of the Rexes of the rest of the country this would mean that he would need to create a strong pride both to protect himself and to keep the land and the place in the city. As Tibs was no ones fool, if he did not have a strong pride then those who lived and were forced to leave their current pride, or those who were becoming too strong for the comfort of their rexes would be shipped down here to take this city. That was not going to happen and if he did not have a strong pride already established then the bodies will start to pile up. That can not be allowed to happen either.
“Honor or not, past or not, your showing up here means that the last day of my summer vacation has drawn to a close. And you presence means that I sadly must get to work building my pride. The time for them to come to me of their own accord has ended so now I must visit them and that will be less enjoyable for all parties.”
Standing up to face the window, Tib thought about the coming battles. Taking a deep breath that ended in a sigh. “Down the road a ways there is a bakery, ran by Sleuth. Good people eat there once in a while when I don’t mind overdoing it. Its called the La maison De Lóurs for food I would start there.”
Tibs would leave as soon as the older rex left. He had a place to go that he again was none to happy about going, however as he knew deep in his heart of hearts that he could not hide from reality but so long and then he would have to get down to business.

Ending the call he slid the phone back into his pocket. Nodding to Tibs he apologized for taking the call important as it turned out to be.
He listened as Tibs laid out the problems as he saw them. There was a ring of dread to the way he saw things. He had once been a young Rex he knew how dark things could seem. He also knew that with enough strength and enough support there was light at the end of the tunnel that wasn’t the head light of a train. Closing on the young Rex Hiero offered his hand. “For the record my name is Hieronymous Banks-Walker Rex-Regum of the Abstrahimus Leones Lunae Lucem. It will take a few days to get you what you need to bolster you but I can assure you that as you are one of my Rexes that short of destroying your city there is nothing I or the others wouldn’t do to insure you and your lions are safe hole and enjoying your city unmolested.”
Having said his peace he turned to leave. Pausing at the door he called back to Tibs, “ I have to run a few errands that might take a small bit of time. If you have any questions to ask of me reach out to me. I’ll leave my contact info on your voicemail once I have a bite to eat.”
With that he left Tibs to consider what was before him. He knew what an undertaking it was to even mentally consider corralling a coalition of lions into a Pride. The thought brought up memories of his grandfather and how he ruled with an absolute tyrannous iron hand. He didn’t see that for Tibs but he had been wrong before. He hoped he wasn’t this time around.
Taking the phone call to heart he as loathed as he was to do so dialed the number rarely used and never from this number. “So you’re in New Orleans. Meet Me.”

Tibs nodded at the Rex. He seemed more foreright and honest than most of the Rexes he had ever come across. Tibs stood to walk the Rex out when the guy took another cwalked all. Tibs walked to put on his hat and lightweight jacket. Watching the older Rex, he was smaller than Tib but was way more confident in his ability to lead. Tib thought it best not to listen in on the older Rexes conversation so he just stood by the door waiting. He figured he would go to see the vampires to make sure that they understood what he needed to do would not cause them to any undo stress.
Tibs wondered if he should even talk to the lion. It was not as if they knew each other on any deep level. He was a businessman and how much of this visit was just business. Tibs thought it best to let things play out slowly. If they were to eventually become friends than there would be plenty of time. No need to rush anything.
“Well Hieronymous, I bid you good journey. And I believe I will start making my wishes known on the strip club as I await the backup that is enroute as the. Lioness are the lead likely to pull a gun and shoot me in the head.”
